Bacteriophage Therapy: A possible new alternative for oral diseases

Bacteriophages are viruses that attack bacteria. Phage therapy, a method using phages for the treatment of bacterial infectious diseases was introduced by Felix D Herelle, who co discovered phages in 1920. However , with the arrival of the the antibiotic era in the 1940 s it got suppressed, but the ongoing evolution of bacterial multidrug resistance, the potential of phage therapy is again being evaluated.
